Salutations,
My basic opinion of CitizenCon:
An Impressive demo tech video was the highlight.
Promised added content patches 'probably' every two-three months through version 4.0. SC completion not probable next year.
New and improved Organization program is in development and will start to be made available in the next few weeks.
Arena Commander flight model and overall balancing to get some needed attention. Star Marine to be added with some 'fun' options. 4vs4 and 12vs12 battle options with two arenas to contend in. I sure hope it's fun... we will need some fun things to do while we are waiting for everything else.
Overall, I wasn't all that impressed. Same old style of live stream. A lot of rehashing of the past. Same delaying reason... quality of the final product takes precedence. A lot of pretty graphics and statements about upcoming patches and more delays.
But the delays 'will' give me more time to put together my new gaming computer. |

Squadron 42, the single player branch of Star Citizen, has been delayed into 2017!
At Citizencon the team at Cloud Imperium Games announced the delay, saying that the campaign would not meet its 2016 release date. While a lot of the technology behind the game is done there are still a few areas that are lacking such as AI logic and mission integration.
Well, if it isn't finished... it isn't finished.
The team's current project is to bring one of the Squadron 42 chapters to release quality, and when that is done it will be shown off to the public. Somewhat worryingly there is 28 chapters in the game, which makes it sound like there is a lot of work to get done.
During the closing keynote of Citizencon the CEO of CIG Chris Roberts spoke at length about Star Citizen’s future, detailing upcoming updates and showing off a couple of new features. However one notable omission was a firm release date for anything, something that has become a common theme for the much delayed Star Citizen.
Chris Roberts did however, show off some of the new planetary landing tech showing off new planets and the seamless transition between flying and landing. It certainly did look impressive.

I really hope they start getting their act together soon. I have lost A LOT of my initial enthusiasm for this game. The promise is still there for something absolutely spectacular, but promise and results do not always meet.

Unfortunately, I have to agree. As you know, I have avoided getting actively involved playing during the games alpha development. I just lack the temperment to put up with all of the bugs. With this decision I have been able to avoid having to re-learn all of the things CIG changed.
I keep up with all of the developments but the constant delays and all of the waiting has also caused my enthusiasm to wane.
Oh well. Life goes on.
My dogs still wag their tails when I pet them. They are not concerned about Star Citizen. Maybe they know something we don't. |

Positively stunning. Funny how all it takes is one of those videos and I start to get fired up all over again. Patience, must practice patience.
On a related note, have you seen the new Corvette that is on sale this week?

Looking ahead on the SC developmental roadmap for 2016-2017 the total main patchs will be:
1. 3.1 with mining, refining & processing, quantum interdiction, refueling, escort. New ships Cutty Red & Blue, Hull C, Prospector, Origin 85x
2. 3.2 with salvage, repair, merc - covert ops. New ships Taurus, Phoneix, Terrapin, Harbinger, Sentinel, Reclaimer
3. 3.3 with farming, rescue. New ships Carrack, 890 jump (finally), Banu Merchantman, MISC Reliant - All variants
4. 4.0 with travel to[i] multiple star systems, exploration & discovery, science & research. New ships Orion, Crucible
All of this with the "assumption" that the main patches will be released quarterly.
The next year will be heavily focused on gameplay content along with ships, thus the biggest leap forward both for development and technology will be 3.0. I think that 3.0 will be the biggest foundation "base" for every following patch next year
In every quarter going forward we may receive new gameplay content and mechanics!!
Remember.... I said 'may receive' new gameplay content and mechanics.
With no intention to underestimate CIGs workload, I believe 3.1 and the rest will be far easier for them to handle. of course I'm not taking into account optimization or balancing. Strictly only adding more gameplay content each quarter. Time will tell.
