Startling Discovery

Fleet Admiral Posts: 1734 Joined: 14.12.12	I made a surprise discovery last night with my ALienware alpha computer. I haven't used the alpha user interface very much so I decided to see if I could set up Star Citizen to run in the Alpha UI instead of windows. Not only did it run, but due to the far lower amount of system resources used by this UI compared to windows, I was getting a pretty significant frame rate boost (15-20 fps on average). With this boost, I am now able to play the game in full 1080HD instead of 720. Its still not as fast as my other system but I am very pleased with the performance of this diminutive machine. There are still a few stability issues that they need to get figured out, but I am at the point now where I play on creating a new boot partition on my main desktop system so that I can boot into the Alpha UI on that machine and see what kind of performance I get. Had to jump through a few hoops to trick it into thinking it was installed on an alpha computer, but it did work and HOLY CRAP. Can you say 130FPS with everything maxxed out on full 1080 High def?!??!?!??!?! The alpha UI is far less resource hungry than windows is, and also I have the ui and the game only with nothing else on the partition where I installed them. Mind boggling that it makes that big a difference. I can run other programs, but not all without problems. The alpha ui is still in development and there are stability issues. I find fairly frequent CTDs with other games like Rfactor for example that I just don't experience in windows. So this is by no means a perfect setup, but I was pretty startled by the performance boost.
