My experience this morning convinced me of 2 things. 1 The Aurora is not a very useful craft unless it is all one can afford. 2. The Gladius is a damn good dogfighter and might be worthwhile to hang in our orgs inventory. So with that in mind, I melted my Aurora and my Mustang and used the funds toward the purchase of this beauty.

Yes, the Gladius is a great light fighter. It punches above its' weight and is very maneuverable.
Trip sure is high on the Gladius.

In flight sims I generally am not a fan of light fighters, but when going up against a human like Trip for example, I do not believe that one has a very good chance unless one can match mavurerability or at least come close. The Super Hornet is by far my favorite ship of the ones I have flown, but against an expert pilot in an gladius you really have your work cut out for you.

One thing to consider is that our Super Hornets have a turret. That may prove very beneficial when we can join up in it and manually control the turret while the other pilots the craft.
My current craft assets.
Super Hornet (game package)
Avenger (game package)
315p (game package) (I foresee using this craft as a basic scout/exploration craft.)
I plan to get a P-52 Merlin for primary use in racing.
Future plans. Gladiator, Freelancer DUR and a Aquilla.

Spent the last couple hours getting used to the Gladius. I am remembering all the reasons why I hate light fighters. LOL I can see why it's considered a good dogfighter, because one can immediately tell that it is hard to hit. The unfortunate part for me at least is that I am finding it equally hard to hit enemy ships. Vanduul swarm seemed to go on forever when I tried that because it takes at least 4-5 times as long to kill an enemy in the Gladius as it does in my Super Hornet. I also find the blackout/redout to be more than a minor annoyance. I am determined however to learn how to fly this thing properly as it is obviously a very deadly package in the hands of the right pilot. I do however believe that the Super Hornet will always be a better fit for me. This is not new for me as I have mentioned before I have always in every other flight sim I've ever played preferred the feel, stability, and strength of a heavy fighter to that of a light fighter. One other thing I should mention is that I am now fully aware of what pot spiking is all about as it is MUCH more noticeable in the Gladius than in a Hornet. I am therefore hopeful that the increased precision one gets from a better joystick like the T16000m that I have ordered will enable me to take full advantage of the advantageous flight characteristics of the Gladius.

I didn't like all of the blackouts in the Gladius either. The T-16000m should help in the aiming department. |
